Jstar is the DJ, selector and remixer who laid down some of the outstanding reggae remixes of the past few years. His limited edition unofficial blends put onto vinyl complimented the artists he reworked, and opened doors to full productions and remixes for major record labels including Sony, EMI, V2 and Acid Jazz amongst others This body of work saw Jstar invited to play around the world as a DJ, and contribute to local productions. Jstar has also brokered deals, helping aspiring other global remixers break into the vinyl market.

Jstar began his career DJing for many years, owning a small sound system and collaborating with others in a wide variety of musical styles, primarily in the bass culture scenes of reggae, jungle, hiphop and funk. His first release was as “Freaky Beans” on the 21st Century Ska compilation album He joined band on a major record label, both performing and honing his creative production skills, before moving into his current area. His remixes have found their way onto the record bags of Sir Norman Jay MBE, Grandmaster Flash, the late John Peel and Mark Ronson.

Jstar has now produced radio shows for Red Bull Music Academy, three mix CD’s, 2 CD’s of back catalogue works, 18 vinyl releases, over 30 official remixes including Madness, DJ Vadim, Ari Up (the Slits) and Sonny J, appeared on a BBC Radio 1 documentary about electronica, attended countless radio interviews and mixes worldwide including XFM (UK), Kiss FM (UK), Radio Nova, Radio Belgium.

Aswell as Djing at prestigious festivals worldwide such as Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Secret Garden Party, Womad, Gurtenfestival (CH), Fusion Festival (D), Splore (NZ), One Love (NZ) he has accompanied DJ slots with artists such as Shapeshifter and Tiki Taane (NZ), Dreadzone, Don Letts, Plug3 (DeLaSoul), Trojan Soundsystem, Benny Page, A-Skills, Dead Prez, Cypress Hill, Beta Band, Mark Ronson, Morcheeba, Andy Smith Usually Jstar is accompanied by MC Honey Brown and occasionally Brother Culture.

He continues to be a rotating resident at Stuart Pattersons monthly “Rootikal” reggae event alongside David ‘RamJam’ Rodigan and Earl Gateshead, and London’s The Big Chill Bar. Jstar DJ’s
